The Enemy Within: Shadows Over Bogenhafen (S1E3)

GM notes (posted 9 July 2018)

A quick GM-report from Saturday:
- The PCs arrived in Bogenhafen, met some people, bought stuff, got a drunk dwarf out of the stocks, saw a freak show.
- Wanda went to find a bookseller but got turfed out of the fancy jousting area
- A goblin escaped from the freak show! Our heroes went to look for it (good money in it) down in the sewers
- Apparently Americans don't say that you "prise" something open.
- Werner and Wanda fell in the effluent channel.
- They found a dead dwarf (the one from yesterday), the goblin - also dead, a demon in a secret Chaos ritual room - which had eaten the goblin. They ran away.

Will be quick, I stink like a devil's bowel... that's very relevant actually. Harbull are you getting this down in your journal? Great... Johann speaking. We made it to Bogenhafen looking for work and were not immediately tricked and accosted by footpads and other vagabonds, which made it a much nicer place than Nuln in my book. That was only the surface of this town, however, as I shall soon tell. Wanda went to buy some books to follow the wizardly arts, something I cannot delve into even lightly. Complex, deadly stuff, I wouldn't have the same level of learning for it. Werner, Harbull and I wanted to go see the local show of freaks, mutants and other strange creatures. Before that, we went to buy some armour, weapons and supplies for our next job. I bought bolts, a helmet and, best of all, some fancy mail pants that are both protective AND stylish.

At the freak show preview (it was going to properly begin in an hour), the good professor who's name I'll never be able to pronounce announced such wonders like the three legged goblin. That little bastard almost escaped, to the shock of the crowd, but with a little luck I caught the blighter before he could cause havoc. It was a very good day for me so far. Then I paid a friendly and pleasant drunken dwarf some gold so he could get out of the stocks. He was very grateful but got kebab meat all over my shiny metal pants. The day was getting worse. Wanda joined us again and had not been able to properly meet the town's wizard. Show started, goblin got out again, couldn't catch it despite chasing it all the way to a sewer grate. Much, much worse. So the owner of the freak show and a city official (of the watch I think?) offered us a generous sum for ridding the sewers of the mutant, as well as seats for the last round of the jousting tournament. At the tournament, Werner won some money gambling, got very drunk, and vomited all over my mail pants. It was horrible but I forgave him because by Sigmar I knew the sewers were going to make me smell worse!

We made our way into the sewers in the morning and despite the hangover Werner was suffering we found a trail soon enough. Traversing the sewers was thankfully less hazardous than we imagined, despite an incident with half our party falling into a river of shit. No real harm done though, as far as I could tell. Our lantern light soon revealed a disturbing sight: the mutilated corpse of the drunken dwarf! My cries of shock and sorrow echoed through the sewer. After this discovery, we found a door with a small barred window into a circular chamber. Inside we could see a drawn unholy circle with a goat head symbol in the middle! By Sigmar, I felt a great chill in my bones and did not want to venture in first. Harbull, more brave and curious than I, walked in with no trouble and found goblin bones... with a pelvis with three sockets. Our mutant goblin had been found at last. After exploring the room briefly, a hideous demon resembling a nightmarish goat-man conjured itself inside the circle! Despite it only watching us with a wicked grin on its face, we took no chances and fled with the goblin pelvis as quickly as possible.

We've got to warn the good people of Bogenhafen, the devil lurks under their very noses!
