The Enemy Within (S1E1)

(Posted 24 June 2018)

Johann Dasbuut speaking. Wanda's writing, I'm telling it. Will try to make this brief, we need to get moving soon.

Got off boat to Nuln, a large city famed for its industry, and by the time we got through several officials on the port it had reached night. Couldn't find ourselves a good inn, so we took the offer of a seemingly helpful fellow who would show us a place. When we got there, he ran inside and bolted the door. We had stepped into an ambush with four footpads. The scoundrels were greatly injured after a brief skirmish and fled.

We reached not exactly the cleanest place but it had a roof and that was good enough for us. Accidentally ruined the front door and paid the innkeeper what I thought was reasonable (writer's note: it absolutely was not but we had just fought for our lives and really required some respite). Wanda was smart and bolted the doors and windows before we slept. She also told us of seeing a face in the window in the middle of the night but nothing happened after that (I really did. I believe it was a burglar disappointed by the invention of bolted windows).

After that we went to the local area for those seeking jobs, the Reiks Platz. On a large tree we found a note for a job for Oldenhaller (a Councillor). He had the biggest house I had ever seen (it was a mansion, to be precise), with all sorts of fine carpets and art. He wanted us to get a gem that some say is of a Chaos God, whose name I forget but it sounded bad (Nurgle, it was Nurgle the Chaos God of filth and disease) and we were given a temporary magic box to contain it (yes the enchantment seemed legitimate and we were told it would last for six hours). We were guided to an area of the underground slums held by gangs such as the Schatzenheimers (they had the gem in question) and went inside.

A massacre had taken place, bodies of gang members were found in each room and everything was taken save for a few books. Some corpses had cards saying that they were part of the Valentina gang. One corpse in particular was horrendously rotted already, which we quickly avoided inspecting as it looked diseased. We eventually found a heavily wounded member of the Schatzenheimers (his name was Ulrich, like the deity) who told us what had happened: a fight broke out between the gangs and one member named Kurt had grown obsessed with the gem and tried to keep it for himself. We tried to save Ulrich but his wounds were too severe.

We continued further and engaged in a battle with a few Valentina gang members that nearly slew Wanda and myself. We are all okay now, no serious injuries, but only Sigmar knows what could be up ahead...

GM note: the cards were kind of "Hi! We just killed you, haha. Love the Valantinas xx" greetings cards from the Valantinas, left on the bodies of their dead enemies.
